Meridian Waste has bought selected assets of Lafferty Disposal, a residential waste collection business based in Meherrin, Virginia, American Recycler reported. The transaction closed on 1 October 2026 and extends Meridian Waste’s residential collection operations in south-central Virginia. The purchase covers selected assets rather than a stated acquisition of the entire company.

The acquired business will be absorbed into Meridian Waste – Lunenburg Hauling. That operation is based at the same site as Meridian Waste’s Lunenburg Landfill, bringing collection services and disposal capacity together within the company’s existing regional network. According to the report, this arrangement is intended to support efficient service for customers across the area.

Lafferty Disposal serves households across Prince Edward and Nottoway counties. Its collection territory includes Farmville, Blackstone, Crewe and Burkeville, as well as Green Bay, Rice, Prospect and Pamplin. The transaction therefore adds residential collection activity within those counties to Meridian Waste’s south-central Virginia presence, with the Lunenburg operation providing the base for integrating the acquired services.

American Recycler identified the ability to direct the acquired municipal solid waste volumes to Meridian Waste’s own disposal facilities as a significant part of the operating model. Using its own infrastructure, rather than depending exclusively on external disposal providers, allows the company to oversee waste from collection to final disposal. The report presented stronger operational control, more efficient transport and dependable service over the longer term as benefits of that approach.

The Lunenburg Landfill supplies permitted disposal capacity for municipal solid waste generated in south-central Virginia. American Recycler described it as an important part of the region’s environmental infrastructure. The report also set out Meridian Waste’s commitment to safe disposal operations, compliance with relevant environmental requirements and protection of local land, air and water resources.
