Worldsteel has named six companies in its announcement of the 17th Steelie Awards winners, highlighting projects covering steel production, product development, environmental assessment and safety. The list includes JSW Steel Limited, Nippon Steel Corporation, JFE Steel Corporation, Hyundai Steel Company, Jindal Steel Limited and Aceros AZA S.A.
JSW Steel’s recognised project centres on an ecosystem combining renewable green hydrogen and oxygen for clean steel production. Worldsteel identifies the integration of those two inputs as the focus of the company’s entry, although the announcement provides no figures for capacity, investment or emissions reductions.
Nippon Steel’s entry is SuperDyma GB, a steel sheet plated with a zinc-aluminium-magnesium-silicon alloy. According to Worldsteel’s description, the product incorporates a pigmented post-treatment that allows production without a subsequent painting stage. The recognition therefore covers both the coated sheet and its treatment approach.
JFE Steel is listed for its JFE Blue Infrastructure Platform, which uses steelmaking by-products. Worldsteel describes the platform as delivering benefits across the circular economy, biodiversity recovery and blue carbon, placing the use of those materials at the centre of the project’s environmental scope.
Hyundai Steel’s recognised work addresses the standardisation of life-cycle assessment methodologies. The stated aim is to make assessments more comparable across steel products. Jindal Steel’s entry, Dakshata, focuses on engineering safety through an approach organised around individual duty positions.
Aceros AZA’s project involves healing domes that reframe weapons as safe spaces for children through a material metaphor, according to the association’s description. It is the final company project named in the supplied winners list.
Worldsteel says its membership accounts for around 85% of global steel production. The association brings together steel producers, national and regional industry associations and research institutes, with members in every major steel-producing country.
