Alkagesta said it attended the Miller DayWithMiller and Annual Cocktail Event in Paris on 8 October, where more than 400 participants gathered from the commodity trade finance and risk sectors. According to the company’s account, those attending included traders, banks, investment funds, development finance institutions, insurers and reinsurers. The gathering combined a workshop programme with an evening reception for the industry’s finance and risk community.
The daytime workshops were organised by Miller’s Credit, Surety and Political Risk team. Alkagesta said industry speakers addressed trade credit, political risk and commodity risk management, with discussion covering the financial and insurance arrangements used to support commodity trading. Topics ranged from credit and surety structures to marine cargo insurance and political risk cover, bringing several aspects of trading risk into the same programme.
Alkagesta described the sessions as an opportunity to discuss the frameworks and instruments underpinning responsible trading, as well as how institutions approach risk management and compliance in a complex operating environment. Its account focused on the scope of those discussions rather than identifying individual speakers or detailing their recommendations. Following the workshops, participants attended a cocktail reception intended to support further networking and relationships across the commodity industry.
For Alkagesta, the event was linked to its stated priorities of strengthening its risk management framework and developing relationships with insurance and reinsurance partners. The company also presented its participation as a way to demonstrate the compliance and governance standards it says support its international operations. Alkagesta reported that its business covers petroleum products, biofuels, fertilisers and steel across approximately 48 countries. It said a broad network of trade finance, risk and insurance partners plays a central role in supporting the responsible execution of those trading activities.
